Project: Lowther Building
Client: St Andrew’s Healthcare
Year: 2005 to 2011
Survey Type: Energy Survey
Project size: 80,000sqft

With excessive annual energy consumption from one of their newest and most highly specified buildings, The Lowther Building, St Andrew’s Healthcare commissioned The Oakleaf Group to carry out an energy survey to indentify the sources and causes of this extreme energy usage.
Mainly through inspection of building services and on-site monitoring of instantaneous energy consumption, the major reasons behind the high consumptions were identified.
These included unnecessary electricity wastage through the usage of a trace heating system and a poorly designed HVAC controls strategy. The report provided multiple strategies and solutions of varying capital costs for the main areas identified. Significantly low pay-back periods were determined for a number of key solutions.
